The Sci-GaIA project has been launched!

May 20, 2015

The 9 project partners gathered at Brunel University in London, on May 12, 2015, to officially launch the Sci-GaIA project.

Sci-GaIA (Energising Scientific Endeavour through Science Gateways and e-Infrastructures in Africa), coordinated by Brunel University (UK) aims at creating a sustainable foundation of educational materials and procedures for the development, management and editing of Science Gateways and e-Infrastructures in Africa and beyond. The project approach is based around three objectives:

  • Promote the uptake of Science Gateways and e-Infrastructures in Africa and beyond;
  • Support new and already emerging user communities by helping the users of these technologies communicate and share experiences and information;
  • Strengthen and expand Science Gateways and e-Infrastructures related services.

The Sci-GaIA consortium brings together a highly experienced and committed team of beneficiaries that have worked between Africa and Europe to advance African e-Infrastructures for research and education. The project includes 4 African partners and 5 European partners: Brunel University (UK) – Coordinator, UbuntuNet Alliance (Malawi), WACREN (Ghana), Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (Tanzania), CSIR Council for Scientific Research (South Africa), Sigma Orionis (France), University of Catania (Italy), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden).

Sigma Orionis is very proud to be part of such a promising project and look forward to bringing its expertise in strengthening and supporting cooperation with Africa and in promoting connectivity and global e-Infrastructure services.
