The 8th Africa-EU Partnership on Science, Information Society and Space (Partnership 8), adopted at the Lisbon Summit in December 2007, recognised Africa as the Continent where the scientific and digital divides are the widest. The priority actions envisaged aimed at bridging the digital and scientific divide and strengthening African capacities in the area of Science and Technology and foresaw improved infrastructures and facilities for Research and Development. With this scenario in mind, the TANDEM project aims to support dialogue between the EU and African Research and Education Networks with special attention to West and Central Africa region. The aim is to create favourable conditions for WACREN (West and Central African Research and Education Network) to be able to participate in the forthcoming AfricaConnect project extension and to ensure WACREN’s integration into the global Research and Education networking community. TANDEM long-term goal is to make it possible for researchers and academics to contribute with their peers around the world to the socio-economic development of the West and Central African Region.
Sigma Orionis is leading the “Dissemination, Communication and Outreach” activities and contributes to the organisation of TANDEM awareness and dialogue workshops and community workshops, aiming at reinforcing the NREN community & the dialogue between WACREN, policy makers, end-users and national research and education networks.
