The EuroAfrica-ICT/P8 project, coordinated by Sigma Orionis, is a FP7 project funded by the European Commission (DG CONNECT) and spanning over 24 months (project start date: January 1, 2012) with the aim of strengthening ICT research and policy links between Africa and Europe under the 8th Strategic Partnership (P8). The project builds upon the substantial results obtained and the significant momentum created by several previous projects known as ‘the EuroAfrica-ICT Initiative’ and coordinated since 2006 by Sigma Orionis.
Among current and planned project concrete objectives: identify, analyse and map EU-African joint ICT research priorities; provide evidence-based recommendations to the European and African Union Commissions for future cooperation initiatives; provide support and guidance to European and African organisations in their efforts to connect and develop joint research projects in the ICT field; support and sustain the activities of the P8 Africa-EU Implementation Group on ICT (IG8/ICT) and of the Joint Expert Group (JEG8); achieve strategic coordination with other initiatives/projects/programmes sharing similar or related objectives.
You can meet EuroAfrica-ICT/P8 project partners on the occasion of two events that will be organised in the coming months with the support of Sigma Orionis: the EuroAfrica-ICT Regional Workshop (Sept. 25-26, 2013 – Nairobi, Kenya), and the 2013 Africa-EU Cooperation Forum on ICT (Dec. 2-3, 2013 – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia).
